1. Reading School crowned Secondary School of the Year by Sunday Times

Reading Chronicle:

A Reading school has been crowned the best secondary school in the South East in The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2024.

Reading School, a grammar school serving students aged 11 to 18 has taken home the title ranking the best in the southeast and the eighth best across the country.

Kendrick School in Reading just missed out on the top spot, and has been named as the second-best school in the southeast and fifteenth nationally.

2. Snow predictions for Reading, Bracknell, and Slough

Many dream of a white Christmas, and with rumours of incoming snow circulating we thought we’d break down what the weather is looking like this week in Berkshire.

According to the BBC, the weather in Reading this week is particularly chilly, with high points of six degrees Celsius and lows of minus four.

We will experience some sunny spells during Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, and can expect some rain on Thursday.

3. Reading's one-star food hygiene places revealed

Here is a list of food establishments in Reading that currently have a one out of five hygiene rating.

As it stands, there are currently 15 food outlets in the area that have the second-to-worst rating possibly given.

While many of the establishments have been awarded the rating this year, others have been stamped with the one-out-of-five rating for over a year.

4. Reading academy receives 'inadequate' Ofsted rating

Reading Chronicle:

A Reading secondary school has been slammed after the education watchdog found that their pupil's needs were not being met.

John Madejski Academy, located on Hartland Road was inspected on October 10 and October 11.

Although the school received positive feedback regarding its sixth-form provision and leadership and management, the quality of education was considered subpar and in desperate need of improvement.

5. Tilehurst WWII veteran celebrates his 100th Birthday

What’s the secret to living to one hundred years old?

“Happiness” according to World War Two veteran Mr Walter Bishop, who saw in his hundredth year on Saturday November 25.

Mr Bishop lives alone in a cosy bungalow which is regularly visited by members of his family, including his granddaughter Mrs Claire Sibley. He has 10 children, 33 grandchildren, and 68 great-grandchildren.
