A WATER company has been slammed for 'wasting thousands of litres of precious water' in a leak.

Concerned residents claim they reported the leak in Church Street, Theale to Thames Water after noticing "water gushing out for months".

One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, believes the company has no interest in repairing the leak.

They said: "I live opposite the situation and as you will see, it is causing some issues for pedestrians too. The water is disappearing into the ground, running down beside the house in the photo, I have suggested to Thames Water that it may even cause damage to the foundations of that house, but I am not a structural engineer!

Reading Chronicle:

"I contacted the company direct as the house next to the leak had been reporting the leak for several months. It has been reported multiple time to Thames Water, who have done nothing to properly deal with and stop this regrettable loss of water."

The resident said Thames Water promised to repair the leak on Sunday, November 7, sending a van in the middle of the night to have a look -- but no work was done.

They even submitted a report online and tried to reach out to Thames Water on Facebook, to no avail.

However, the company apologised to customers in Church Street for the delay.

A spokesperson for Thames Water said: “We’re sorry it’s taking us longer than usual to repair this leak.

“It’s a complex job and we’ve had to do a lot of preparation behind the scenes to make sure supplies are maintained to homes and businesses while our team fixes the leak.

“We are now in a position to carry out the work on Wednesday, November 17.”
