ARRESTS were made in the town centre after England lost on penalties to Italy in the Euro 2020 final.

Fans flooded into Friar Street in Reading shortly after England lost in what was the most nerve-wracking shootout.

Jubilant supporters were caught being drunk and disorderly and three people were arrested by Thames Valley Police.

As many fans started packing into the street, police were called to a reported public disorder incident in Friar Street.

Dozens of police officers on horseback were seen attempting to control crowds, speaking to riled up fans.

A spokesman said: "The disorder in Friar Street occurred just after 11am at the conclusion of the England v Italy match.Officers were in the area patrolling and there was minor incidents of public disorder which resulted in three people being arrested, two for obstructing police and one for drunk and disorderly."

Supporters across the country who had cheered and agonised through the 90 minutes and extra time were distraught after Italy claimed victory.

In Trafalgar Square some fans began singing the national anthem, cheering the Three Lions’ accomplishments despite the defeat.
