Reading FC are now into their second week of pre-season. Having had a long and quiet summer in terms of transfers, things are just starting to pick up, writes Eddie Wallbank.

23-year-old Kyle Edwards appeared for the Royals on Saturday, as they picked up 1-0 win against Lincoln.

The recently released forward has been linked with a move to Celtic and was involved at various stages of the England youth set up, having come through West Brom’s academy.

Edwards became the first trialist of the summer for Reading, but having travelled with the squad for a pre-season camp in Scotland he has company on his quest to impress.

The Reading Chronicle understands that 29-year-old left-back, Achraf Lazaar, is also on trial with Reading and is likely to feature in Friday’s game against Aberdeen. 

The Moroccan born defender joined Newcastle in 2016, where he only made 4 appearances.

After loan moves to Benevento, Sheffield Wednesday and Cosenza, he made 5 appearances for Watford earlier this year, aiding their promotion push.  

Most of Achraf’s career appearances came from his 2 year stay at Palermo, where he impressed enough to warrant a multi million pound move to The Magpies.
