As the days get colder and the country starts to welcome in Autumn, many decide that this is now the time to get out and about.

With that in mind, we have come up with a list of our top five picks for autumnal walks for the whole family this season.

It can be lovely and refreshing to venture out and look at the golden, orange, and red leaves falling from trees whilst basking in beautiful countryside.

With the help of AllTrails, our pick of the best walks near Reading is as follows:

Caversham and Mapledurham Circular

This is a pleasant town and countryside trail taking you from Hills Meadow, across Christchurch Meadows and Balmore Park, heading out of town via Bugs Bottom, and winding through the farmlands and woodland pockets past Mapledurham.

The trail then returns to the start via The Warren and the River Thames, where you can enjoy views over the water.

Some parts can become quite muddy during wetter months, so it's best to come prepared with suitable footwear and layers for a full enjoyment experience.

Greathouse Wood and Bradfield Circular via Stanford Dingley

This is a circular walk starting in the small village of Stanford Dingley.

The route then takes you through a mixture of open countryside and enclosed woodland paths eventually arriving in the village of Bradfield, ending with a riverside and meadow walk looking back round to the starting point. Enjoy!

Thames Path: Reading to Pangbourne

This is a pleasant section of the Thames Path that takes you from Reading to Pangbourne with lovely views over the water.

A wide variety of bird species live here, so keep an eye out as you make your way along.

This is a wonderful retreat in a bustling urban center. This route is relatively flat and suitable for a wide range of ages and fitness levels.

Care is still needed in wetter conditions when sections may be muddy and slippery.

Reading to Henley via The Thames Path

On this point-to-point route, you will begin in Reading near the train station and finish in Henley-on-Thames.

The trail is well maintained and easy to follow. There are gorgeous river views all along the way and you will also cross through marshes and countryside.

Collin's End Wood Circular

This is a gentle circular route in the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

There is a nice mix of woodlands and open terrain to explore. You will have wonderful views of the river Thames.

You may encounter livestock like llamas and horses along this route, so leads are advised if you bring your dog.

There is an abundance of wildlife in the area, including red kites and pheasants, so keep your eyes out!
