An exciting opportunity awaits those who want to make a difference in our town.
The Way Ministry Reading, headed by the lovely Grace Gomez, are looking for volunteers to help out at their new Night Shelter.
A spokesperson for the Emergency Night Shelter for Homeless in Reading said "No experience necessary, just a heart to help and serve with compassion."
The night shelter is hoping to open officially on May 10, and it desperately needs people to help out.
During the evening session volunteers help with hosting the homeless guests. This can include making hot drinks, organising bedding and towels, serving a hot meal, socialising with the guests and playing board games.
They continued: "We also have a need for a couple of people to prepare a simple hot meal. All ingredients are provided, but home made cakes always welcome!
"We then need two or three volunteers who will stay the night at the shelter when the other volunteers have left."
A single volunteer needs to be awake in case any of the guests need support, but the other volunteers can sleep in rotation.
During the morning volunteering session simple breakfasts are made, the guests are given their bags back, the shelter is left tidy ready for the evening session.
The volunteering times and roles needed for the night shelter are 7.40pm to 10.15pm Team leaders, 7.45pm to 10pm Set up, welcome and host, 7.15pm to 9.45pm Cooks,10pm to 7.15am Overnight volunteers (can sleep in turns), and 7.15am to 9.15am Breakfast and set down volunteers.
