A dentist in Tilehurst has reportedly told patients they face a THREE YEAR wait for an appointment after the recent privatisation of one practitioner.

mydentist in Meadway Precinct has allegedly told patients that their waiting list for an NHS dentist appointment is over three years long.

A member of the public who has regularly attended the surgery for many years said that after they announced their imminent privatisation of one staff dentist, their remaining NHS dentists’ appointments are now full.

"I called up to book an appointment and they said that my dentist has decided to go private and their [remaining] NHS dentists appointments are full.

"They told me that they are full for the next three years. I asked when the three years are up, like when is this date and I was told well the date is from today.

"Basically when you call it's three years from then. That's ridiculous!"

The patient said that they believe mydentist is ‘throwing this three year term around’ in a bid to ‘scare’ people into paying privately.

A spokesperson for mydentist said: “Like dental practices across the country, we are experiencing unprecedented demand for NHS dentistry and a severe shortage of dentists.
“We are doing everything we can to recruit more NHS clinicians so that we can grow capacity and treat as many patients as possible.”
