A bizarre object has recently stumped passers by, many questioning why it has suddenly appeared.

A mysterious yellow box has turned up on the side of a road in Reading with locals debating what its uses could be.

The small yellow rectangular unit can be seen in Caversham opposite the Last Crumb pub.

Lewis Huggins posted a photograph of the bizarre object along with “Anyone know what this yellow thing is facing the last crumb? It’s empty at the moment but has an opening at both ends?”

Many took to the comment section of the post to share their suggestions on what they think the yellow box might be.

One person wrote “A piece of cheese,” with another user responding “Mouse trap.”

A further person suggested “With the state of the economy perhaps they are a new type of Studio Flat!” with another saying “I heard they are sunbeds for rabbits.”

It is believed that the mysterious yellow boxes are actually temporary covers for telecommunication (telco) cabinets that are part-way through being installed.

Each unit is located next to a junction box, usually maintained by BT and other telecommunications companies.

Inside, they are near enough empty apart from a number of pipes directly beneath them.
