A couple who met on a train, commuted by train to date each other, and even shared their first kiss on a train will today Friday March 8th tie the knot...on a train!

A railway chaplain will conduct the ceremony and exchange of rings between London and Reading.

Leah Anderson and Vince Smith will have their entire wedding on board a special Great Western Railway Wedding Train from London Paddington to Swansea, from the ceremony, wedding vows, and family photos through to the wedding breakfast and speeches.

Leah’s dad who will give her away, alongside her six-year-old son Teddy, was a signalman on GWR’s sister network South Western Railway, for 51 years.

It’s believed it is the first time a couple have had their entire wedding from start to finish on board a moving train.

Train operator GWR decided to offer the couple this unique opportunity after they asked the company to provide a center piece for their planned traditional wedding to commemorate the role the company had played in bringing them together.

But GWR had other plans...

Leah will have her hair and make-up done in the Queen Victoria’s lounge on Platform 1 at London Paddington before joining the groom and the wedding party on board the 12:18 London to Swansea train.

Following that will come traditional wedding photos and then a three-course meal in a Pullman dining car along with speeches and a champagne toast as the Wedding Train passes through Berkshire, Wiltshire, and Somerset before arriving at Cardiff where the guests will depart.

The newlyweds will travel on to Swansea where GWR has arranged for them to stay in a hotel for the night before further surprises the next day.
