Many Woodley residents have recently noticed several exotic birds in their gardens and have taken to social media to discuss these strange occurrences.

A post released on Facebook detailed a sighting of green “Ring-Necked Parakeets,” one of which was photographed in Mr Rob Gladwin’s garden.

Upon the release of this photo, numerous other members of the community have shared their views on the parakeets gracing Woodley’s trees, feeders, and skies.

Many took to the post's comment section to share their experiences of seeing the unlikely feathered friends.

One commenter said “I often see them at dusk in the sky above the "new" nature reserve by Loddon Park” and another one said “Yes, very often in our garden.”

Other users questioned why the parakeets found themselves in Woodley in the first place, giving suggestions for the various reasons why they may be out and about.

One user wrote: “I wonder if we can piece the story together about how they got introduced?”

In response to the previous comment, another person said “There are all kinds of theories including Jimi Hendrix releasing a pair in London in the 60s or escaping from a freight store at Heathrow.”

However, a few users also expressed that the parakeet sightings may not be such a good thing.

They said: “Evasive species like this are rarely good news but they are colourful. Several hundred roosts on Goat Island in the centre of black swan lake at Dinton overnight.

“They're here to stay and regularly use feeders especially in winter. The local Peregrines are taking a liking to them which will help keep numbers under control. Guess it makes a change from pigeons!”

In response to the previous commenter, another person said: “Good for the peregrines! There are a few buzzards around there too, so hopefully they'll be on the lunch menu.

“Shame the hundreds of local kites don't have stronger talons, to scoop them up too!”

The same commenter also expressed their disdain towards the exotic birds, suggesting that they are bullying the native English species.

In response to one person saying “Yes, been feeding in my garden. Other birds not impressed” they said: “Yes, they're worse than having mobs of starlings on the feeders and bully the smaller birds.

“I know they have to eat, but not happy if it's at the expense of the bluetits, goldfinches and long-tailed tits.”

A further commenter said: “yep, they’re a pain in the arse.”
