A hydrotherapy company specifically for dogs has helped a working border collie who previously could not walk back on his feet again.
Opening just a year ago, Barkshire Hydrotherapy has been rehabilitating hundreds of poorly pets ever since.
Co-owner of Barkshire Hydrotherapy Emma Matthews said that when the collie came into their clinic he could not walk at all.
“As soon as we put him in the water he could move his legs a little,” she said. “After many months of treatment he could walk again. He was a working border collie so is now back in the fields.”
Mrs Matthews said that she first got the idea to start Barkshire Hydrotherapy when she met a man who built the special pools at Crufts.
At the time she had a dog walking company of her own and thought it would be great to get to work with dogs in water.
“The majority of the work we do is rehabilitation work,” she said. “We’re either dealing with dogs that are pre-op or post-op or managing life-long conditions.”
Mrs Matthews and her business partner Jessica Williamson also teach dogs how to swim, and have had dogs with them for up to eight years.
