The John Sykes Foundation is delighted to announce they have been awarded the first grant from their Reading Youth Fund.
This grant will match a contribution of £1,000 to Starting Point by Amanda and Stuart Stephens, parents of Olly Stephens, a total of £2,000.
The funds will be used towards Starting Point’s “Hub,” a safe space for young people to drop in during the summer, access support, and build confidence and connections in the community.
John Sykes visited Katherine Shepherd, CEO of Starting Point, at their new location on Sackville Street, to learn more about their important work.
Amanda and Stuart Stephens started Starting Point as their son Olly Stephens tragically lost his life in January 2021 through violence that escalated on social media and resulted in knife crime.
Starting Point is a project of The Mustard Tree, a charity based in Reading that partners with local communities, other charities, and statutory organisations.
