A POLICE officer was assaulted in Woodley after asking people 'acting suspiciously' for a drug search.

The officer came across a vehicle in Tippings Line at about 4.50pm on Tuesday (November 28) and believed the occupants were 'acting suspiciously'.

After stating that the people inside the vehicle would be searched for drugs, the officer was then assaulted.

The offender was briefly detained but after an altercation, they made off. The officer sustained minor injuries.

A 32-year-old man from Woodley has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession with intent to supply a controlled class B drug. He remains in police custody.

Additionally, a 30-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled class B drug. He also remains in custody.

Investigating officer, PC Rory Wells, based at Loddon Valley Police Station, said: “This is a concerning incident which involved one of our officers being assaulted.

“Thankfully they only sustained minor injuries in the incident.

“I would like to appeal to anybody in the area who may have any camera footage, witnessed this or any information regarding this incident, to please get in touch."
