A ‘HERO’ crane operator who rescued a construction worker from a burning building in Reading has revealed he has never met the man he saved.

Glen Edwards, 65, used the winch he was operating to move a cage toward the workman trapped on top of the burning building at the Station Hill Construction site last Thursday (November 23).

Dramatic video footage of the ordeal was shared widely across news platforms and social media, with hundreds praising Glen for his work.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday (November 29), Glen revealed that he has never met the man who he saved but believes he is ‘owed a drink from him’.

He said: 'Obviously he's a bit traumatised so whenever he's coming back on site [I'll meet him]. He's got to take me across the road for a drink.”

Relieving the incident, Glen said: “I couldn’t see him because of the smoke and the flames. Every now and then I got a glimpse of him so I tried to land the cage between him and the fire…which I did eventually.

“I had some instructions from [the groundsman] on the radio, [but] there was so much noise with all the alarms going off – it was quite fuzzy.”
