A McDonald’s franchise owner in Reading has asked Ms Amelie Turnbull, age nine, to design for him one thousand Christmas cards to sell over the festive period.

The designs include a burger wearing a Christmas hat, a Christmas tree, and a Santa hat with “Ho Ho Ho” written beneath it.

Other than Christmas themed cards, McDonald’s will also be selling some of Ms Turnbull’s general designs, which include paintings of kittens.

The cards will be on sale at the owner’s branches in Slough. The exact locations are Slough High Street, Slough Prince of Wales, Slough Asda, and Slough Bath Road.

Ms Turnbull has been selling watercolour painted cards for three years now and recently won the Pride of Reading award in October for her creative work.

Amelie’s mother Ms Davina Turnbull said that she started making the cards back in lockdown.

“She’s always been creative and was painting in the house,” she said. “And I looked at what she was doing and was so shocked at how good they were.”

Amelie’s mother then advertised six of the paintings on Facebook to raise money for charity, and all of them sold quickly.

She then asked independent gift shops if they wanted to stock the designs, and several stores in and around Reading bought up hundreds of her cards. Nood in Caversham has been selling Ms Turnbull’s cards for two years.

“This is her third year selling Christmas cards,” Ms Turnbull said. “They just keep selling.”

Half of the money raised from the sales goes to two charities that have helped Amelie’s brother George, who has complex special needs. She has raised £5000 so far for Camp Mohawk and Music Club.

The rest of the proceeds from the sales are put away in a trust fund by Ms Davina Turnbull for when Amelie is older.

The Turnbull family attended the Pride of Reading Awards back in October. “It was a big do in the Select Car Leasing Stadium. We had a lovely time.

“It was amazing to see her enjoy herself so much. She’s been very anxious leaving the house, but I feel like her confidence has grown this year.

“Her whole card-selling business has helped her gain this confidence as she’s realised that she’s good at something. It’s given her loads of experiences she’s never had.”

Ms Amelie Turnbull has also been asked to create a card for Hilton Hotel VIP guests to receive during their stay.
