The west Reading takeaway has hit the headlines recently after being named one of the best restaurants in the UK at a national awards ceremony.

So naturally for journalistic purposes, I had to see what all the fuss is all about and try  Heat and Eat out for myself.

As a newcomer to Reading, I haven’t quite yet explored all of the best places to get local food from, but I can now say that I have added one to my firm list of favourites.

The Oxford Road takeaway supplies customers with pre-cooked quality Indian meals that they can heat up and enjoy at home, or delivered hot to their door.

Entrepreneur and owner Mr Mohammad Nunu was presented with the “Best Takeaway” award during a gala ceremony in London’s West End at the Curry Life Awards 2023.

I treated myself to chicken korma, garlic naan, and pilau rice, all of which were absolutely delicious.

A curry would not be my usual go-to for an evening takeaway, but I was pleasantly surprised by the richness of the korma.

The naan was also very tasty, soft, fluffy, and full of flavour.

As someone who also has quite a substantial list of allergens, Heat and Eat were incredible at making sure everything was “Olivia-friendly.”

I would also note that the portion sizes were very generous, especially considering the price. My meal itself was £15 for a curry and two sides, which in my view is astonishing for this day and age.

For three hungry young professionals, Heat and Eat did not disappoint. The rest of the girls shared a chicken passanda, a tikka masala, two pilau rice, two naans, and poppadoms with mint sauce.

My housemate Ms Betty Main said: “I liked the mint sauce it was very refreshing. The poppadoms were crunchy, and I really liked the packaging too it was very well labelled.

“They also catered to allergies very well, and the delivery man was very nice and personable.”

For a Friday night, Saturday night, or even a midweek treat, I would thoroughly recommend Heat and Eat as your new go-to Indian.

Ms Michelle Lewis said: “I thought it was nice. I really liked the passanda, it was very coconutty and I’d never had that before.

“Prompt delivery, nice colourful dishes. The garlic naan was really good.”

Ms Katie Thompson said: “Great portion sizes and I liked the masala. Arrived at a good temperature and there was great variety on the menu.

“Defo my new go-to Indian. I was very impressed to find out it was award-winning, and I can understand why.”
