Parents are being warned prior to Christmas shopping to avoid buying e-scooters for their children.

A crackdown on e-scooters is coming according to Thames Valley Police's Jason Hogg as he warned the force could start prosecuting parents in January and start confiscating e-scooters – which are illegal to use on roads or pavements.

As previously reported, Parents could be fined up to £300 and given points on their license for allowing their children to use e-scooters. Read more here.

On a Facebook post warning members of the community about this, Cllr Pauline Jorgensen said: “The Chief Constable specifically said that parents should be aware the e-scooters are illegal, and you can't get insurance for them.

“From January the police intend to prosecute parents of children who are riding e-scooters and seize them.

“As the Christmas present season is approaching, I thought it would be useful to warn you.”

Many took to the comment section in agreement with the Councillor’s statement.

One commenter said: “This has been too long in coming. There are quite a few youngsters who go zooming around the paths at high speeds, especially through the precinct.

“One only missed a mother with a toddler in a pushchair by a whisker today, so an accident waiting to happen.

“Worse still, was a young man on his scooter, dressed all in black at night, who shot across the road in front of my car a few weeks ago. How I missed him, I'll never know, but I was very shaken.”
