A MAN has been jailed after stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s brother in the armpit before threatening to stab her as well.

In the early hours of August 12, Shane Harris arrived intoxicated at Matthew Dean’s house in Canterbury Road, Reading, armed with a knife.

Reading Crown Court heard on Thursday (October 2) that the 24-year-old was shouting at Mr Dean allegedly his sister, Chloe Dean, had stolen his phone.

Harris then stabbed Mr Dean in the left armpit before calling his ex-partner, Miss Dean, and shouting: “Oi listen, I just stabbed your brother and I’m going to stab you next, you little s***.”

He was jailed for four years after pleading guilty to one count of attempted wounding and one count of malicious communications.

The court heard that Harris had been in the Walkabout club in Wiston Terrace, Reading when Miss Dean arrived and asked the security guards to retrieve him.

Harris came out of the club shouting, calling Miss Dean ‘a psycho’. He tried to return to the club to retrieve his mobile phone but security refused his entry.

Later in the evening, at 1.40pm, Harris arrived in Canterbury Road with his uncle and started shouting at Mr Dean, stating Miss Dean had ‘stolen’ his phone.

He threatened Mr Dean, stating if his sister did not bring him his phone and £600, he would ‘stab her and the whole family’.

Harris then pulled a knife from his waistband and said: “I will f****** shank you.”

He then stabbed Mr Dean, causing a 4.5cm ‘superficial wound’ in his left armpit, before calling his sister and making threats to stab her as well.

Harris then handed himself into a police station on August 16.

The court heard that Harris has a ‘history of angry outbursts from ADHD and depression’ as well as the ‘traits of someone with emotionally unstable personality disorder’ despite no official diagnosis being made.

His defence barrister said Harris was ‘extremely sorry’ and understood it ‘could have been much more serious for others and therefore him’.

Sentencing Harris, who appeared in court wearing a long-sleeved, light blue jumper, Judge Heather Norton said: “It was a deliberate and intentional stabbing, intended to cause serious injury.”

Harris, of Ashburton Road, Reading, received three years and nine months for the attempted wounding and three months consecutive for the malicious communication.
