A unique food business and restaurant in Reading has won its bid to sell and deliver alcohol to its customers.

Vegivores, located at St Martins Precinct in Caversham, applied to sell cocktails, beers, wines and ciders at the restaurant and for deliveries last month.

The application was submitted to Reading Borough Council’s licensing department, which has since confirmed that the application has been approved.

This means Vegivores can now sell alcohol on and off the premises from 11am to 10pm Mondays to Thursdays, 10am to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 10am to 10pm on Sundays.

Vegivores has a range of 10 cocktails, 11 wines and a mix of pale ales, a lager, a cider and a rotating beer and cider on draught at the restaurant.

Originally run as a street food stall from its foundation in 2017, Vegivores established its restaurant at St Martin’s Precinct in October 2019.

Its licence has been granted with a number of conditions attached, one of which bans the sale of super strength beers and ciders, with the exception of premium-priced and craft beers and ciders.

Another condition states that during Reading Festival from Wednesday to Bank Holiday Monday, Vegivores must operate a  ‘No ID, No Sale’ policy to clamp down on underage drinking.

Also, those under 18 are not allowed at Vegivores past 9pm if they are not accompanied by an adult.

The company must operate a ‘Challenge 25’ age verification policy for its home delivery service when customers order alcohol.

Vegivores has been contacted for comment.
