1. Million pound drug operation shut down by police as 16 jailed

Reading Chronicle:

A GROUP of men have been handed a combined prison sentence of 58 years after a large-scale cannabis operation was shut down by police.

The 16 men were part of an organised crime group who have been brought to justice over the past two years by the Thames Valley Police’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit.

The investigation started in 2020, and on March 3, 2021, officers carried out 18 warrants in Reading, Blackburn, Sunderland, Birmingham and London.

2. Reading residents are "not surprised" at Sainsbury's closure

Reading Chronicle:

RESIDENTS say they “are not surprised” that Sainsbury’s is closing one of its Reading branches at the end of this month.

The Sainsbury’s Local on Shinfield Road will be closing its doors at the end of May and the premises will be handed back to its landlord.

3. Reading teacher surprised by pupils on Britain’s Got Talent

Reading Chronicle:

AN EARLEY teacher wowed Britain’s Got Talent judges with dance performance, before being surprised on stage by pupils.

Felix Clements, a PE teacher at Woodcote Primary School, impressed the judges with his dance performance on Britain’s Got Talent on Saturday (May 13).

During Saturday’s show, the 24-year-old introduced himself to the judges - Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli – saying “it’s brilliant teaching kids because I was not the confident kid so I love bringing them in and making them feel like they can learn anything.”

4. Clas Ohlson Reading replacement revealed in plans submitted

Reading Chronicle:

THE store that will replace Clas Ohlson in Reading town centre has been revealed in the latest plans submitted in the town this week.

Sports Direct is set to move over the street from its current premises at 90-93 Broad Street to the old Clas Ohlson unit, which has been closed since August last year.

5. West Brom CEO slammed by former Reading FC colleague

Reading Chronicle:

FORMER Director of Football at Reading, Brian Tevreden, has slammed former CEO Ron Gourlay for his time in Berkshire.

Colleagues together at the SCL Stadium, the former Chelsea and Manchester United chief spent 18 months with the Royals but garnered a poor reputation among staff and supporters alike.

Dutchman Tevreden, formerly of Ajax, helped oversee the Dutch revolution in 2016/17 as Jaap Stam lead the Royals to the Championship play-off final.
