A CHURCH has opened its doors to let the public enjoy its cool environment.

St Johns Church, Woodley, is welcoming residents to escape the heat and enjoy the cooler temperature inside the stone building.

Residents are welcome inside between 11am and 5pm today (July 19) and are welcome to bring a packed lunch with them.

The church informed neighbours on its Facebook Page.

"Our church is almost 150 years old, built of stone, and stays MUCH cooler inside than predicted temps over the next couple of days... the churchyard and gardens are shady and cool as well!

"So if you are looking for a place to escape the heat for a bit, the church will be open between 11 and 5, and you are very welcome to come down and chill for a while. Bring a book, or enjoy some quiet - feel free to have lunch inside or out, and we will have cold water available."
