FOOD hygiene issues have cropped up at a takeaway in Reading after it was given a one star rating.

Following an inspection by Food Standards Agency officers, La'De Express Reading has been given a one out of five food hygiene rating.

Inspectors visited the takeaway in Market Place on Thursday, March 17.

Owner, Ayham Henareh, says the one star rating isn't fair as they were just 'having a bad day'.

Major improvement was deemed necessary in two categories — management of food safety and food handling.

The cleanliness and condition of facilities and building was generally satisfactory.

The Turkish kebab takeaway business only opened in December.

Recruiting for staff has been a 'problem ever since' and the shop is currently advertising for workers to join the team.

Reacting to the report, Mr Henareh said: "It wasn't fair to get a one star rating as the day the inspector came nothing was ready, the restaurant was clean but there was a problem with the books and our book wasn't ready to be shown that day.

"We had also been waiting for pest control to come for two weeks but they didn't come.

"On the day she came in there was only one person in who understands very little English. We are now waiting for her to come back and reinspect.
