Students have been left feeling 'frightened and upset' after two cars crashed as they were walking to their swimming lesson.

Shinfield Road remains closed this afternoon following a serious crash involving two cars at the juncton of Cressingham Road.

25 pupils from Ridgeway Primary School were walking to their swimming lesson at the time when the crash happened.

Headteacher Jacky Steele received the report at 11am.

She said: "The children were walking to their swimming lesson near Cressingham Road when two cars came towards them at speed. They did hear what happened but didn't witness the crash.

"One staff member was at the back of the line and stayed behind to help and one teacher stayed with the children. The children are inevitively shocked and upset and received support from trained staff this afternoon." 

Ms Steele said she couldn't provide specific details on the crash but offered her well-wishes to those involved inthe crash. 

Police have been contacted for more information.
