A rainbow photographed colliding with a telegraph pole in Reading stunned residents yesterday (Wednesday).

The perfectly timed picture taken in Earley by Ritesh Nigam was deemed “competition worthy” by locals online.

The image even includes a faint second rainbow.

“That’s super cool” and “Well spotted Ritesh, great pic” wrote two people on Facebook.

“Brilliant” and “amazing” posted another pair.

“That’s competition standard I think. Well done” said one woman.

Ritesh said: "I was simply walking to pick up my daughter from school while appreciating the beautiful double rainbow in Earley sky.

"Suddenly the telegraphic pole in front of the rainbow just begged me to stop and click the photo.

"It was a great camera angle."

Others agreed, complimenting the “fantastic perspective” and the “added dimension” of the telegraph poll.

“Fabulous photo,” “brilliant pic” and “epic” commented other Facebook accounts.

The rainbow was captured by photographers across Reading, including Tony McGinn in Tilehurst.

Double rainbows are formed when sunlight is reflected twice within a raindrop.

The violet light that reaches the observer's eye coming from the higher raindrops and the red light from lower raindrops.
