More than 60 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Berkshire in the past 24 hours, new figures show.

Public Health England has recorded 62 new lab-confirmed cases in the past 24 hours, in areas including Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham, West Berkshire, Slough and Windsor and Maidenhead.

These figures, correct as of Monday, March 22, at 4pm, bring the latest total for the county to 55,113 cases.

The local breakdown for the past 24 hours as follows:

  • Bracknell Forest - 4 cases, 6,936 total
  • Wokingham - 11 cases, 8,057 total
  • Reading - 9 cases, 10,691 total
  • West Berkshire - 9 cases, 6,229 total
  • Slough - 13 cases, 14,972 total
  • Windsor and Maidenhead - 16 cases, 8,228 total

There have now been 4,301,925 across the UK who have tested positive for Covid-19 - a daily increase of 5,342.

The latest seven-day rate per 100,000 people locally are as follows:

  • Bracknell Forest - 31
  • Wokingham - 39.7
  • Reading - 45.7
  • West Berkshire - 29.7
  • Slough - 74.2
  • Windsor and Maidenhead -49.5

Another 17 people in the UK have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday, bringing the UK total to 126,172.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 149,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

Government data up to March 21 shows that of the 30,279,360 jabs given in the UK so far, 27,997,976 were first doses – a rise of 367,006 on the previous day.

Some 2,281,384 were second doses, an increase of 52,612.

Boris Johnson will privately observe a minute’s silence on Tuesday as the country marks a year since the first lockdown.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “He pays tribute to all those who tragically lost their lives in the pandemic.

“He believes people should personally reflect in whatever way feels right for them.”

Britain must brace for another wave of coronavirus infections being imported from Europe as cases rise on the continent, the Prime Minister has warned.
