Reading's Oktoberfest festival is still set to go ahead despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which has caused events to be cancelled all around the world.

An application has been submitted by Touch Entertainment Ltd for Oktoberfest 2020, requesting a 12pm-12am licence to sell alcohol.

The festival took place at Hills Meadow Car Park last year and the same venue is planned for this year's event, which is set to take place on one Thursday-Saturday weekend in October.

The original Oktoberfest in Bavaria, which is the world’s biggest beer festival, was cancelled earlier this week due to fears it could become a breeding ground for the coronavirus.

All events planned during the lockdown in Reading have been forced to cancel or postpone.

As the Covid-19 outbreak continues to cause chaos and uncertainty across the community, many other events in Reading have been cancelled or rescheduled as a precaution.

These include:

  • Are You Listening? Festival
  • The Royal County of Berkshire Show
  • Young People’s Performing Arts Concert
  • Reading Sports Awards
  • Carters fun fair, Prospect Park

Reading Festival is still currently going ahead as planned in August.

Touch Entertainment Ltd, which runs the yearly event, is owned by the same management as Tea Party Festival.

Tea Party Festival had planned for a move to Reading last year before being cancelled after the council raised safety concerns over a shooting at a previous year's event.
