Garden waste collections in Reading will return next week after a month of suspension.

The green bin service will fully resume from Monday, April 27, Reading Borough Council (RBC) announced today.

The service was temporarily suspended on March 27 to allow the council to focus on collecting of household waste and recycling due to increased pressures amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

For residents who had already renewed, garden waste subscriptions will automatically be updated to start from April 27 for a full year, with no charges for the period that the service was suspended.

Sophia James, lead member for Neighbourhoods at the council, said: “We are delighted to be able to resume the garden waste collection service after only a month’s suspension to complement the existing household waste and recycling collections which have remained constant thanks to the diligence of our waste and recycling team.

“I would like to thank residents for their patience over the last month and encourage them to resume using the scheme from next week, ensuring that garden waste they have accumulated is only left out in the bins or bags provided”.

Existing customers who have not yet renewed, and new customers, can sign up and pay for the service now online at reading.gov.uk/garden-waste

With the service resuming next week after a month-long absence, residents are being urged to only present their garden waste for collection in the bins or bags provided, as the collection team are unable to take away excess waste placed beside the bins.
