WHILE people are stuck indoors due to the coronavirus lockdown, getting a takeaway or food delivered is the new going out. 

But where in Reading can you order a takeaway, and be confident your food was prepared and cooked in a kitchen with good hygiene?

Takeaways, and anywhere else that prepares food, are regularly inspected by food safety officers at Reading Borough Council. Inspectors give scores between 0 to 5, based on hygiene and safety, structural compliance, and confidence in management.

While no takeaways in Reading scored a 0 rating, meaning urgent improvement is necessary, six takeaways have a current score of 1, meaning they need major improvement. Here’s where those six are—

Bengal Grill, on the Oxford Road, scored a 1 rating last December. Inspectors found ‘bad’ food hygiene and safety, ‘fair’ structural compliance and ‘little’ confidence in management.

Compass Kiosks at the Madejski Stadium scored a 1 rating in February. Inspectors said there was ‘poor’ food hygiene, safety and structural compliance, and ‘little’ confidence in management.

Hot Stuff, on the Oxford Road, scored a 1 rating last April. Food safety officers said there was ‘poor’ food hygiene and safety, ‘fair’ structural compliance but ‘little’ confidence in management.

Mr Cod, on the Oxford Road, scored a 1 rating last August. While inspectors said there was ‘good’ food hygiene and safety and ‘fair’ structural compliance, they had ‘little’ confidence in management.

Perfect Fried Chicken, on the Oxford Road, scored a 1 rating last June. While food safety officers said there was ‘fair’ food hygiene, safety and structural compliance, they had ‘little’ confidence in management.

Star Karahi, on London Road, scored a 1 rating in January. Inspectors found ‘poor’ food hygiene, safety and structural compliance, and ‘little’ confidence in management.
