The race on October 12 — organised by Reading-based Barnes Fitness in collaboration with Wokingham Borough Council — marks the third staging of the event in Dinton Pastures Country Park and is open to all abilities.

The course comprises a 5km off-road, flat run through the park, a 20km bike ride on a gently undulating route around Twyford and Hurst, and a second 5km run in the park.

Entry costs £35 for British Triathlon members, £40 for non-members; £50 for teams. The race starts at 8.30am and the minimum age to compete is 15.

Online entry here can be completed at www.barnesfitness.co.uk/event/dinton-duathlon.

Meanwhile, Ellie Barnes was first across the line at the Quantiles Reading Triathlon Sprint — just 10 weeks after having her first baby.

She finished in 01:19:41, more than a minute ahead of second-placed Mitch Lloyd.

Tri2O tri club member Ellie, 29, competing under her married name of Gosling, said she was delighted — and surprised.

“I had no expectations coming into the race as the last time I competed was back in January,” she revealed.

“Our son Max was born on June 24 and although I’ve been easing back into training, it’s been a gradual process.” Ellie, from Shinfield, has a solid track record as a Great Britain age group triathlete.

She won silver at the 2013 ITU World Standard Distance Duathlon Championships and bronze at the 2013 National Duathlon Championships, and has a marathon best time of 3:07:00.

Elsewhere, young duathletes starred when they took part in the Incurro Junior Duathlon at Dinton Pastures Country Park.

A total of 79 children aged between eight and 16 crossed the finish line after completing an off-road run followed by a bike ride and a second run.

They competed over different distances depending on their age.

The event was organised by Incurro Ltd, an Earley-based business specialising in running and multisport events and training for both children and adults.

The winner of the boys Under 10s category was Rory Hodge, 9, from Padworth, who ran 500m, cycled 1.5km and then ran another 500m to finish in 11:51. The first girl was Darcey Dryden, 8, from Hurst, in 11:53.

The winner of the U12s boys’ race was Kushal Tandon, 11, from Charvil, who covered the 1km-3km-1km course in 19:34. The girls’ winner was 10-year-old Annabelle Garthside, from Reading, in 22:04.

In the U14 race, Sam Jones, 13, from Wokingham, came in first after completing the 1.5km-4.5km-1.5km course in 27:41. Elizabeth Romanski, 13, from Reading, was the first girl across the line, in 29:12.

For the U16s, the first boy to cover the 2km-6km-2km course was TVT Tri Stars’ Isaac Doel, 15, from Woodley, in 30:48, and the first girl was Reading Rascals’ Cara Brimacombe, 14, from Shinfield, in 51:28.
