ST Anthony’s Ladies opened their season with a 5-10 1-2 victory against West London side Tara’s in the semi final of the Tom O’Connor Cup on Sunday.
The game started well for the Reading side, who opened their account with an Aoife Greene free-kick.
Some strong running through the heart of the Tara’s defence by Fiona Keenan and a delicate pass allowed Allie Burke to finish to the net for a goal, before another two points from Burke left her side in control.
Tara’s grabbed a point back, but that was as good as it got for them in trailing 1-5 0-1 at the break. St Anthony’s started the second half with points from Kate Fitzpatrick, Sarah Cowan and Keenan, and while Tara’s again hit back with a free, the Reading girls stamped their authority with three goals without reply from the industrious Sarah Cowan, Keenan and substitute Julie Coulter.
Tara’s did score a goal of their own, but Isabelle Delaney and Coulter tagged on points before the former finished a fine team move with a well-taken goal.
