RIVERMEAD were unfortunate to lose 84-61 (15-1 on match points) to Swindon-based Westlecot in their Wessex League match.
Although John Eatwell’s away rink were well beaten 30-13, the other travelling rink skipped by Nigel Cabeldu maintained a marginal lead into the last third of a neck-and-neck match, only to be edged out 19-15.
In the home games, Peter Slatford’s team came back from 13-6 down, but were eventually defeated 17-15, while a whitewash was averted when David Brown’s rink secured an 18-18 draw.
Rivermead had led by a shot, but despite Dave Miles and John Jeffrey having bowls around the jack, Westlecot skip Ian Farquahar drew to within an inch for the shot that levelled the score.
- WHITEKNIGHTS Ladies are into the last 32 of the national Mason's Trophy following a 38-28 victory against Handy Cross.
There was less success for the men, though, as they exited the Denny Cup at the quarter-final stage with an 86-70 defeat to Moonfleet.
