FOUR members of Reading-based Nemesis Martial Arts Club enjoyed a fantastic weekend after they were called up to join the 87-strong England Karate Squad in the WKU (World Karate Union) European Championships held in Frankfurt.
The event had more than 30 countries and a record 846 competitors taking part, but 15-year-old Bulmershe School pupil Ross Wheeler became a treble European champion after winning in three separate divisions.
Shinfield Primary School pupil Lewis Richardson, 9, won the Under 10 title and another Bulmershe student, 12-year-old Chloe Wheeler, collected three silver medals in three seperate divisions.
The more experienced Peter Felix, the club’s instructor, was crowned men’s black belt champion.
All four fighters (pictured) are now heading to the World Championships, which are scheduled to take place in Ireland from August 27 to September 1, where another Reading fighter, 12-year-old Lailah Hanif (five-time WKU British Champion), has also received a call up.
Sensei Felix admitted: “I am extremely proud of my team and am confident the fighters will be World champions.”
