HANNAH Gilmour scored four goals as Reading hammered Wakefield 10-0 in their England Hockey Under 18 Cup semi-final on Sunday, writes Dave Wright.

In the final, to be played at Lee Valley on Bank Holiday Monday, May 1, they will take on holders Beeston, who defeated Wakefield 3-0 in last year’s final.

Blues, who won the U18 Plate last year, proved far too strong for the Yorkshire visitors and could easily have won by an even bigger score.

Gilmour scored twice in the opening four minutes and completed her hat-trick before the interval.

Abbie Dixon (2), Jess Minshull-Beech and Livi Lee-Smith, who are all part of the club’s Investec League squad, were also on target, along with Frankie Hogge and Statsi Knight.

Reading have reached the final by scoring 27 goals and conceding one in their four ties.

The club’s younger girls teams finished third in their pool and joint fifth overall in the England U16 finals at Lee Valley on Sunday. They defeated Marlow 3-0 in their final game.

Goalkeeper Mila Welch, another member of the club’s senior team, is with the England U16 girls squad in Holland this week.

There was more success at the Sonning Lane club last weekend with the Reading Refills men winning the London League Division Three Cup.

They defeated Hampstead & Westminster 5ths 3-0 with goals from Kincaid Ingram after 30 minutes, Jack Mundell on 55 and Gavin Hill five minutes from full time.

Reading defended so well that their goalkeeper Barry Jukes did not have a shot to save during the game.

Refills, led by player-coach Chris Armitage, had finished top of the table thanks to a 3-2 win away to Kings Allyens 2nds in their final fixture which left them a point clear of Hampstead & Westminster.

Hosts Reading were also involved in the Veterans Division Two final last Saturday.

Their Redsox team conceded two late goals to draw 3-3 after 70 minutes, but Epsom Embers went on to seal a 6-3 win in the penalty shoot-out.

They also finished runners-up to the same opponents in the league.
