WITH the coming of the winter months matches seem to get fewer and fewer.

Last weekend there were two Reading & District Angling Association club matches on local venues with one on the River Thames and one on the Kennet & Avon Canal.

The Thames at Wallingford B section, which has a good winter reputation, hosted Prestcold AC. Roy Green found small chub feeding and netted four along with skimmer bream to take 5lbs 6ozs to the scales for first place.

Mark Steadman landed skimmer bream and small silver fish for second place with 5lbs, while last place went to Graham Walker who lost four large barbel but banked 3lbs 12ozs of silvers.

South Reading AC fished the A section at Froxfield and Duncan Bales won with 3lbs 15ozs. Ron Cole finished second with 3lbs 3ozs and in third was Tony Green with 1lb 5ozs. All the anglers caught silver fish.

Away from the RDAA venues, Reading Fishing Club fished the village end of the Thames at Goring on a wet and windy day.

Andy Woolsey coped well in the conditions as he won the Club’s Committee Cup with 8lbs 12ozs of mixed silvers.

Match secretary Keith Wilkins claimed the runner-up spot with chub and perch weighing 4lbs 12ozs. Pete Budaji was back in third place with silvers totalling 3lbs 6ozs.

The RDAA Tuesday Club fished the New Barlows lake on the Stacey complex at Tadley. Things were slow from the start with the exception being John Ambrose who netted bream and carp from the outset to take top spot with 21lbs 8ozs.

Second and third places were keenly contested as both anglers had two carp each, but birthday boy Terry Littlewood took the honours with 7lbs 2ozs, just one ounce clear of Pete Morris.
