Goode is one of the all-time leading goal kickers in the Premiership, with a remarkable 2,147 points to his name, making him the second highest points scorer in the history of the competition.

The mercurial fly-half made a name for himself at Leicester Tigers where he won five Premiership titles and two Heineken Cups.

Following a stint at Saracens he returned to the Tigers where he continued to impress and forced his way into the England team, winning 17 caps and scoring 107 points before his last international appearance in 2009.

Goode, 34, signed for Wasps in 2013 and has been central to their revival in recent seasons, scoring 441 points over two seasons.

Goode's arrival will soften the blow of Tom Homer's departure to Bath, and London Irish Operations Director Bob Casey said: “Andy is a top class player and one of leading goal kickers in the Premiership with an impressive kicking percentage.

"He has a wealth of experience to offer and is also a leader. He has proven himself as one of the best fly-halves in the Premiership and we are delighted he has signed for us.”

Goode stated: “I am really looking forward to joining London Irish next season. They are a family club heading in a really promising direction.

"The facilities are very impressive and having spoken to the management and coaching staff it is a club I am really excited to be joining.

“I have had two brilliant years at Wasps and will leave with many fond memories. There is still plenty to play for this season and that will have my full attention until the summer.”

Wasps Director of Rugby Dai Young explained Goode had been offered a coaching deal at the club but decided to continue with his playing career.

“We would have loved for Andy to stay at Wasps in a coaching capacity next season, but we fully understand his decision to play on at London Irish, during an exciting time for that club as well," stated Young.

“Andy will leave with our very best wishes at the end of the season and I’m sure he will do a very good job for London Irish.

“Goodey has been a tremendous ambassador for Wasps since joining two seasons ago, both on and off the field. His performance against London Irish at our first game at the Ricoh Arena will live long in the memory.

“He’s a popular character, who has really helped some of our young guys coming through, and they will continue to benefit from his knowledge this season."

Irish confirmed their second signing of the day on Monday with the capture of 23-year-old utility back Andy Short from Bristol on a loan deal until the end of the season.
