IT’S back to Six Nations this weekend and the penultimate round with leaders England looking to maintain their three-match winning run when they face Scotland on Saturday in the Calcutta Cup match at Twickenham.

Eddie Jones’ side have won their last 17 games, having already seen off Italy (36-15), Wales (21-16) and France (19-16).

I can’t really see them losing, but you can’t rule out the possibility of a Scotland win as they have lost just one of their three Six Nations games, having beaten both Ireland and Wales.

They have a tough pack led by Gray brothers, Ritchie and Johnny. England must be disciplined to secure an 18th win.

Elsewhere, Wales take on Ireland at the Principality Stadium on Friday night while Italy host France in the early Saturday kick-off.

Turning to local matters, London Irish made it 16 straight Greene King IPA Championship wins at nearest rivals Yorkshire Carnegie, and I was pleased to see Redingensians Rams pick up a bonus-point win at the side above them in the table, Cinderford, last Saturday.

Rams remain seventh in the National Two South table but are now just a point behind the Gloucestershire side and look set for a top-half finish.

So what can I say about my boys Reading who, of course, are already relegated?

We put up a fight last Saturday against visitors Banbury and were level going into the final quarter, but we gave away two penalties to lose for the 18th time in 21 matches this term.

However, the front row of Josh Pallett, Alex Watson and Josh Nicol did well in the set-piece, scrum half Nick Portch produced a good display and Matt Hills, an early replacement for Rob Sweeney at fly half, impressed.

All we can do is keep it going until the end of the season. We’ll be advertising for a new head coach soon and have already made changes that will hopefully get us back up next season.

There was a disappointing collapse for Reading Abbey against rivals Windsor, and with the bottom half of the table very tight, they are no longer looking as secure as they did.

Lastly, Berkshire Shire Hall took a losing bonus-point against Wheatley, so commiserations to them on a hard-fought effort.

All local rugby clubs will be showing Six Nations matches so get along if you can.
