Johnson suffered a host of problems in his two qualifying sessions as a faulty steering damper and braking problems meant he was just 17th fastest in qualifying.
But a blistering start saw the star move up to ninth place by the end of lap one and he kept that place until lap 14 when the red flag brought the race to a premature end last weekend.
An incident had left debris on the track and a rider needing medical attention but Johnson was credited with a ninth place finish in the race which moves him up to ninth place in the National Superstock 1000 Championship.
Johnson is next in action on Sunday, October 5 at Silverstone.
