Karacan breaks ankle in brutal Leeds United victory
Michael Brown tackle puts midfielder out for months
JEM Karacan's season is over after breaking his ankle in Friday's brutal 2-0 win against Neil Warnock's Leeds United.
The 23-year-old was hurt by Michael's Brown trailing leg as the United midfielder tried to block the ball.
Karacan was lucky to escape serious injury moments earlier in Friday's fiery clash when the Turkish youngster was on the receiving end of a high-footed Danny Pugh lunge that went unpunished by referee Darren Drysdale.
Warnock employed strongarm tactics from the start, with Zac Thompson red carded just 13 minutes in for ploughing into Royals skipper Jobi McAnuff.
If the decision was harsh on Thompson, Brown got away with a string of nasty challenges before the incident which broke Karacan's ankle shortly before half time.
Karacan will see a surgeon on Monday, and Reading boss Brian McDermott said: "I'm really upset for Jem. Some of the tackles did not belong in the game.
"I'm devastated for hm. He's played such a pivotal part in the team."
Royals had to sweat for the victory, with two late Adam Le Fondre goals sealing the win which briefly sent them to the top of the Championship table.
However, they were leapfrogged by Southampton today after their 2-2 draw with Portsmouth and trail the Saints on goal difference.
Reading return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to Brighton, with Hayden Mullins likely to come in for Karacan (7.45pm ko).

Report commentStill trying to work out how not one Reading player was even spoken to when Reading committed most fouls throughout the match. Robinson was elbowed in the face by Roberts for the second goal which should have been a sending off. Becchio was being continually being elbowed throughout the match by Gorkss. Leigertwood touched the ball may twice and kicked people throughout the whole match. Need I say more?

Report commentLet's just say, Leeds United should be called the Leeds Rhinos. Though to be honest I am surprised Leeds didn't get a second red Brown should of been sent off.
A win is another 3 points. And Paul H calling us southern pussies, bit of a prickish comment really

Report commentHey! I'm not not going to condone the way Leeds played yesterday. They were bang out of order with some of their challenges and could have ended up with nine players on the pitch. But Reading were no angels either. They left the foot in on more than one occasion and commited niggly fouls all afternoon, Plus the way they surrounded the ref for Thomson's red card was pathetic. Shame really cos it had the makings of a really good game. Still hope Reading go up though, They deserve it.

Report commentI thought Leeds battled hard just a shame they forgot that it was a football match not a fight - Pugh is just a coward - Brown has always been a thug no different yesterday two very cowardly challenges from behind against Ledge and scissor challenge on Jem he must be so proud? -- Actually felt a little sorry for Zac Thomson but look at what he has as role models....
Hunt fouled the keeper but he was jumping for the ball - they came together fair do's the ref blew up. Roberts used his strength and pole-axed Snodgrass/Robinson - if you dish it out chaps what goes around comes around.
Becchio I like but he did spend all day backing in and went down too easily -- He won a lot of headers its just a shame nobody in a Leeds shirt took advantage he was arguably along with McCormack were Leeds best players.
Jem see you next August for the first game of the Premier League 2012/13.....

Report commentBrown's challenge was hard but fair. Roberts was responsible for three elbows but nothing said or done by the ref. It was not all "one-way thuggery" as this report would have us believe.
Young Thompson's red was not helped by Reading players surrounding the ref en masse, scum style.
One final thing. Reading supporters do not deserve the team that they have got, they need to take a lesson from the superb Leeds fans on how to get behind the team. Only started singing on 86 minutes. Vocal backing will be a contributory factor in the play offs, if that is where you finish. In that case, you are one down already.

Report commentI think you all need to go to a basketball game if you don't want physical. The only thing that leeds did was to be upfront when they went in hard. Typical sly southern whingers give all the sly niggle ankle taps, dives and elbows and then whinge when they get tackled hard. I bet your soft whinging southern shandy drinking team were all in the sallon after the game cos they broke a few nails when they hit the dirt. GROW A SET BOYS or go to a basketball game

Report commentAs a lifelong Leeds fan I'm ashamed of my misanthropic tax dodging crook of a chairman and route one hoofball dinosaur manager. Football's a mans' game but we're regressing big style if we think that display will get us anywhere. Good luck Reading-progressive well run club-deserve to be in Prem. Leeds fans were the one thing to be proud of. Bates out.

Report commentDepending how you look at it Leeds has good (away) support, but to be honest most of them are living in a make believe world of 1980's thuggery. There's nowt hard about wondering around Reading afterwards singing 'if you hate Leeds Utd have a go', Reading would never have a go beacause we're not there to pick fights we're there because we love football. I think the reason Leeds don't get big home gates (even 30,000 isn't big in a city 4 X the population of Reading) is because Leeds is full of decent people who don't want to associate themselves with the moronic attitude that prevails at Elland Road. Grow up Leeds.
