ADAM Federici is attracting interest from Liverpool while Reading have been linked with Stoke City's Andy Griffin.

Reports say Rafa Benitez was impressed with Federici's display in goal during last weekend's 1-1 FA Cup draw at the Madejski Stadium.

It is suggested the Spaniard could now be lining up a £2 million swoop for 24-year-old Federici as back-up for Pepe Reina.

Royals do not want to sell Federici, pictured, who has become a mainstay in the team this season.

But the club may find that sort of money hard to refuse in the present financial climate and they do have three more talented young goalkeepers in Ben Hamer, Mikkel Andersen and Alex McCarthy.

It is rumoured Benitez will take another close look at Federici in the FA Cup third round replay at Anfield next Wednesday (7.45pm).

Meanwhile, Royals want to take Stoke's out-of-favour defender Griffin on loan for the rest of the season.

The 30-year-old has not started a Premier League game since December 2008 following an alleged fall-out with Potters boss Tony Pulis.

Griffin would provide valuable cover in a full-back position following news that last season's Player of the Year Chris Armstrong has suffered another setback in his recovery from knee surgery.

Reports suggest Stoke will not stand in Griffin's way and Royals are working hard to tie up the deal.

Caretaker boss Brian McDermott confirmed the club are trying to strengthen the team in the January transfer window.

"We might be able to do something, maybe loans," he stated.

"There are positions we want to strengthen. We think we need two or three experienced players to pop through the door, that would help us."
