READING FC are being linked with Ajax midfielder, Thulani Serero.

The South African international is struggling for games in Holland and is said to be looking for a move in January.

The 26-year-old scored his country's second goal in a 2-1 victory against Senegal last weekend.

Serero has clocked up 88 appearances for Ajax since 2011, scoring eight times.

But he is yet to feature in their first team this season and is keen to move on to a new club.

Serano is well known by the Royals as he played under boss Jaap Stam when he was Ajax Under 23s coach.

Dutch media say Reading have already made contact with his agent regarding a move to the Madejski Stadium.

Director of football Brian Tevreden, who left Ajax last year, is quotes as saying: “I have indeed spoken to his agent (Nana Tutu) and asked about the possibility.

“Jaap Stam thinks Thulani is a really good player but we also have to make sure his signing does not block the path of any of the youngsters at the club who are coming through.

“That is why he haven’t taken any firm decision yet.”

Reading's Thai owners have given Stam the green light to bolster his squad in the January transfer window to fuel their push for promotion, though a new striker remains top of the manager's wish-list.

Royals have also been tracking 24-year-old Dundalk winger, Daryl Horgan.
