A 3-0 win at Wigan on Saturday means three successive league wins for Reading, and it was well deserved.

Garath McCleary got us off to a blinder, scoring two goals in the first five minutes, one coming after just 57 seconds.

Both were well-taken goals, evidence of a man brimming with confidence at the moment.

Do we face a fight to keep him in January? We shall see.

Warren Joyce’s first match in charge of the Latics was a disaster and Wigan fans were booing in the first half.

Apart from a few half-chances, his new side looked off the pace and Reading totally dominated in attack, despite possession being almost even.

Ex-Reading striker Adam Le Fondre had a couple of chances but ultimately he couldn’t beat Ali Al Habsi who had yet another blinder between the sticks.

This season’s star performer so far is John Swift was tripped in the box by Wigan midfielder Max Power in the second half. Yann Kermogant killed off the game by scoring the resulting penalty.

The emphatic win saw Reading leapfrog Norwich into fourth place in the Championship table.

There was also a great performance from Liam Moore in the heart of defence.

The former Leicester defender looked solid alongside Paul McShane and I must mention his part in McCleary’s second goal.

He continued his run from deep and split the opposition back line, giving G-Mac the space to take the shot. It was brilliant to watch.

There was also another small positive to take in that Yakou Meite got some much-needed minutes under his belt.

The Ivorian winger has been struggling with an ankle injury recently and his short display at the end of the game showed he has bags of pace and potential.

It remains to be seen whether the international break will allow Jaap Stam’s side to rest and continue our great performances home and away, or if it will serve as a Donald Trump-style wall to our momentum.

A two-week break is probably the last thing Stam wants with the way his side are playing, but if the Royals can come back firing on all cylinders and have a good Christmas period, who knows what 2017 will bring?
