A SECOND big summer signing at Reading FC could be heading for the exit door, writes Anthony Smith.

Peruvian winger Paolo Hurtado has being linked with a loan move to Portuguese top-flight side Guimaraes – having played just 150 minutes of football for the Royals.

He was signed from another Portuguese club, Pacos Ferreira, in the summer by ex-boss Steve Clarke.

But current manager Brian McDermott is willing to let Hurtado go after just six appearances in the Royals hoops.

McDermott admitted the 25-year-old struggled to adjust to life in Berkshire during a recent interview.

He said: “Paolo’s a good footballer, but sometimes it’s difficult for players to settle, especially if you don’t speak the language.”

If Hurtado leaves he will become the second high-profile player to depart Madejski Stadium this week.

Clarke's marquee summer signing, Orlando Sa, joined Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel yesterday after playing just 21 games for the club, scoring five goals.

It appears McDermott is eager to freshen up his squad and bring in his own players.

He made a double signing last week with the capture of striker Yann Kermorgant from Bournemouth for £500,000 and 21-year-old midfielder George Evans from Manchester City on a free.

Royals have also been heavily linked with Latvia striker, Deniss Rakels, with Polish media reporting a £400,000 bid has been accepted by his club, Cracovia Kraków.

McDermott has also handed a trial to 27-year-old Spanish midfielder Javier Matilla, who is a free agent.

Royals boss is hoping to add some more new faces to his squad before Monday's transfer deadline.
