LONDON Irish director of rugby Nick Kennedy has warned his side they must improve ahead of Saturday’s home Greene King IPA Championship clash with Bedford Blues.

The table-topping Exiles nearly saw their 16-match unbeaten run ended when they beat Richmond 26-20 on Saturday, and Kennedy confessed his side were sloppy in winning at the basement boys.

The victory ended a run of 10 consecutive bonus-point successes in the league, and Kennedy said: “All credit to Richmond, but we were off on a couple of aspects of our game and we will go away, watch the video and work hard on those aspects of our game which weren’t up to scratch.

“We knew we were dealing with a very good team, despite their league position, and sometimes it just takes a little while to get used to a new league.”

Kennedy is expecting a reaction when Irish take on Bedford, and added: “We’re on a good run but at this stage of the season, I’m looking for performances to match the result and we will need to improve going into the Bedford game.”
