THEALE Golf Club professional Nick Mitchell delivered an impressive performance at the Streatley Senior Open as the Senior Masters Tour arrived in Berkshire last week.
He shot an opening round 74 before firing 70 to finish just three shots behind eventual champion Fraser Mann.
Donnington professional Matt Briggs also took part in the competition.
Three days later Reading GC hosted the Tour’s end-of-season Players Championship, with players from around the United Kingdom and Europe competing for the title.
It was eventually Nigel Sweet, from Leeds, who became Senior Masters Tour champion by three strokes from George Ryall and Jimmy Murphy, the winner shooting a two-round 138.
- BERKSHIRE one-legged golfer Stan Bembenek is in the England team to play Wales in a disabled international at the Cotswolds club in Oxfordshire on Sunday and Monday.
The Sandford Springs GC member was among the 10 players selected through the Disabled Golf Association’s Order of Merit.
He recently helped England beat Scotland 15.5-8.5 in a three-day event at Cardrona near Edinburgh.
England have now beaten the Scots three times in their last five meetings.
