DAVID WYETH hosted his weekend of captain’s competition at Calcot Park with an individual stableford event on Saturday and a team Texas scramble on Sunday.

The stableford winner was Joe Burgoyne with a total of 40 points. Ladies captain Sonia Selwood beat Joe Bonner to second place on countback after the pair tied on 39 points.

A mystery prize for the best stableford scores on all the par three holes went to Carla Lankaster. Nearest the pin on the fourth hole was Roger Cranstone, while Chris Shackell went closest on the 17th.

The Texas scramble winners, with an outstanding 54.6 points, were Michael Chard, James Darvall, Bonner and Charlie Guest.

The quartet beat runners-up Nick Burton, Graham Paris, George Wilson and Shackell by 0.3 of a point. Harry Powell, Mark Guest, Simon Powell and Ian McNaught were third with 55.9 points.

The best morning score of 56.2 points wer recorded by Shane Slatter, Mark Cossey, Chris Galvin and Aaron Pucket. The best of the afternoon quartets were Steven Booth, Steve Mahoney, Peter Otto and Simon Stewart with 56.3 points.

On Saturday evening members were treated to a Wild West themed evening with local band Molly’s Jam, and fun rides on a rodeo bull.

Caversham Heath

Seamus Smith has taken the main honours in the Midweek medal at Caversham Heath.

Smith (three handicap) recorded three pars and only three bogeys in his round of nett 70 to win Division One.

Runner-up was David Holloway (12hcp) with nett 73, and James Millard (5hcp) came third on countback from Lee Kirton (14hcp) both with nett 75.

The Division Two winner was Jim Wilson (25hcp) on countback from Neil Scott (19hcp) after both finished with nett 72.

Wilson bogeyed his last home but Scott missed his chance with a triple bogey. Paul Lobban (22hcp) was third with nett 77.

Twos were recorded by Garfield Bryant and Geoff Parlour on the 13th home, and by James Millard on the 17th.

Kathy North and Luis Mesquita had a very successful Captains Day with £540 raised for their chosen charity, Parkinson’s UK.

The Captain’s Day competition was won by the team of Matt Gibson, Raymond Smith, James Cross and Andy Ward with a total of 119 points.

Second were John Winstanley, Chris Stacey and Darren Lawrence on countback from Richard Norris, Santiago Fernandez-Garcia, Paul Lobban and Glen Dudman, both teams with 115 points.

Other prizes included the nearest to the pin in two on the first hole (Stacey), on the third hole (Michael Beaumont), and on the ninth hole (Winstanley).

The nearest to the pin on the eighth hole went to David Wise, the 13th hole, Callum Peart, and the 17th hole, Darren Bonney.

The beat the pro competition on the eighth hole was won by Danny Dover, Andy Lambourne, Colin Leighton, Phil Booth, Greg Terefenko, Scott Munro, Chris Roberts, Gerry Rogers, Peter Bishop, Gary King, Matt Mills, Colin Stoute and Wise.

The draw of the green challenge on the 17th hole was claimed by Draw of the Green Challenge on 17th hole was claimed by Greg McDonald, Steve Halford, Tom Brenchley and Terefenko A holiday for two at the Montado Resort Hotel in Portugal was won by Duncan Mee for his highest bid of £550.

Mapledurham

The Mapledurham Midweek July Stableford, which attracted an entry of 93 competitors, was a virtual walkover for the lady members.

On the hottest day of the year, the men just melted away leaving Linda Pitt (19 hcp) the overall winner with a scintillating score of 43 points.

Because of a recent surge of form Linda had her handicap cut by 3.

Runner up was Teresa Taylor (12) carding a score of 41. Six birdies were recorded on the par 3 holes.

Division 2 was clearly Linda Pitt's with 43 points ahead of Alex Robinson (19) on 38, followed by John Roberts (18) with 36 points.

Division 3 saw Michael Nankervis just hold off the ladies with a round of 37 points followed by Val Ochonski (21) and Audrey Turton (24) , both on 36, who required a count back to determine Val in second place.
