Royals continue to put up a wall of silence regarding the status of the Thai billionaire’s proposed buyout.

The 39-year-old hopes to acquire 90% of the club from chairman Sir John Madejski for around £26 million, which includes a £500,000 non-refundable deposit paid last week.

The deal includes the Madejski Stadium plus hotel along with training facilities at Hogwood Park. It would also see Bunditkitsada wipe out Reading’s £21 million debt and he has also promised boss Nigel Adkins between £5-8 million to spend in the transfer market.

That money could be spent on bringing Anton Ferdinand back to England. The former West Ham and QPR defender is currently playing for Police United in Thailand, the club also owned by Bunditkitsada.

Royals are on the lookout for central defenders after losing Kaspars Gorkss over the summer, one of five senior players to depart Madejski Stadium when their contracts expired along with former captain Jobi McAnuff, Mikele Leigertwood, Stuart Taylor and the now-retired Wayne Bridge.

The move was part of a cost-cutting exercise which also saw Adam Le Fondre sold to Cardiff City for £2.5 million to pay a £1.6 million tax bill.

The arrival of Bunditkitsada would help Adkins rebuild his squad ahead of the new Championship season, but the time it is taking to complete has raised concerns.

Just this week reports emerged in a national newspaper suggesting a rival consortium from America are ready to trump the Thai’s bid.

It alleged the group are offering £5m equity, £14m for the Madejski Hotel and £20m to pay off the club’s debts.

Nevertheless, Reading are eager to complete a takeover deal quickly to give Adkins time to act in the summer transfer window.

Royals director of football Nick Hammond told the Chronicle recently: “I am not going to say the group will throw money at it, because it’s far too early for anything like that.

“I know they are very good people and their interest is genuine.

“They understand the football side of things and what our plans are for the Academy.

“We’re hopeful of finding a solution and to move this forward after what has been an unsettling period.

But he also stressed: “Time is moving quickly so the sooner this deal is concluded the better.”
