PAUL Knox had a night to remember at Woodcote Cricket Club’s presentation evening as he scooped six trophies.

His 1231 runs at an average of 72, which included three centuries, won him the Jack Hatt Batting Cup.

He also qualified as all-rounder of the year by adding 42 wickets to his run haul and was the midweek team’s player of the year with 505 runs (average 63) and 16 wickets.

His 186 against Mortimer West End won him the award for the highest individual score and this score broke the previous club record.

These outstanding performances were recognised with the inscription of his name on the Pat Lee-Mace Jug and won him the club’s Centenary Trophy for the best individual performance over the whole season.

For the third year running, James Worsfold won the bowling trophy with 53 wickets (average 16) and Titch Vickers scooped the wicketkeeping trophy for the third time.

Will Macdonald, the Berkshire League Premier Division batsman of the year, was voted Players’ Player in the Saturday team and he also won the fielding award.

The Martin Smith Cup for the Young Player of the Year went to Ed Ravenhill. The Ron King Cup for the best individual bowling performance went to Mike Stroker for his 6-23 against Twyford.

There was a certain poignancy to the award of the Jim Pearson Cup for the best Sunday player as Jim, a stalwart supporter of the club, who rarely missed a game, died the day before the dinner. His cup was presented by chairman Sam Peates to Simon Fuller for 603 runs (average 40).

The club president, Christopher Quinton, gave his award to Vickers for his contribution to the club as Saturday captain in the Berkshire League and the award for significant off-field services to the club went to John and June Sawyer.
