SONNING fell to a 103-run defeat at home to Burnham 2nds in their opening Division 2b match, writes Richard Ashton.

Nasir Ahmed (92) and Habib Khan (54) led the way as the visitors posted an imposing 275-6 in their 50 overs, and none of the Sonning batsman bar captain Peter Dean (47) really got going as they were bowled out for 172.

Sonning visit Royal Ascot on Saturday (1pm).

Hurst opened their campaign with a tight 11-run victory against Yateley.

Floyd Nagara (51) and Alex Kayser (46) impressed as Hurst were bowled out for 215, and with Phil Higgs (3-22) and Ross Bonnell (3-38) starring with the ball, they knocked over their opponents for 204. Hurst host Slough 2nds on Saturday (1pm).

In Division 2a, a stunning ninth-wicket partnership between captain James Frost and Rufus Emmanuel helped Kidmore End snatch a two-wicket win at Harefield 2nds.

Guy Ashby captured 3-18 as the hosts were restricted to 178-9, but Kidmore looked on the brink of defeat when they collapsed to 105-8.

However, Frost (36no) and Emmanuel (39no) took their side home.

Kidmore End host Chesham 2nds on Saturday (1pm).

A brilliant century by Amit Rawal and a fine all-round display from Andy Jackson helped Purley on Thames beat Newbury by 23 runs in Division 3a.

Rawal (116no) and Jackson (44no) pushed their side’s total to 232-5, and the latter’s 5-50 ensured the hosts were dismissed with just one ball remaining.

Purley on Thames host Falkland 2nds this Saturday (1pm).

Wargrave began with a 32-run victory at Fleet.

Will Allum (68) top scored in the visitors’ total of 176, and Jack Clark (5-25) and Razwan Hanif (3-43) then did the damage as Fleet were bowled out for 144.

Wargrave are home to Finchampstead 3rds on Saturday.

Theale & Tilehurst snatched a superb one-wicket Division 4b win at home to Wooburn Narkovians.

Jack Springgay (3-48) was their best bowler as they kept the hosts to 256-8, but T&T were in desperate trouble at 82-5.

However, James White (65no) and Springgay (73) turned the game around, with the visitors claiming victory with just four balls to spare.

Theale & Tilehurst visit Marlow 2nds on Saturday (1pm).

Martin Smith took 4-43 to inspire Wargrave 2nds to a three-wicket win against Aldershot 2nds in Division 5b. The visitors were bowled out for 151, and Jonathon Colbourne’s 47 proved enough to get Wargrave home.

In Division 6b, Tim Everitt claimed a stunning 7-56 to inspire Hurst 2nds (185-4) to a six-wicket success against Aldershot 3rds (182).

Kyle Bradley (63no) and Gareth Fry (59) completed the chase efficiently.

Sonning 2nds had the better of their draw with Purley on Thames 2nds.

Opener Dan Le Marquand made 87 as the visitors totalled 228-7, but the Potters reached safety on 179-9.

A shocking batting display caused Theale & Tilehurst 2nds (41) to lose by 91 runs against Bracknell 2nds (132) in Division 7a.

Fleet 2nds conceded their game to Kidmore End 2nds.

In Division 8a, Sachin Rane took 4-28 to help Theale & Tilehurst 3rds (148-7) to a three-wicket win against Hayes 4ths (147), Jared Mizen’s unbeaten 65 helping them over the line.

Sonning 3rds forfeited their game at Kew 4ths, and Eversley 4ths did the same in their Division 9a game against Kidmore End 3rds.

Hazel Wilkinson (61) top scored in Wokingham 5ths’ (210-8) draw with Wargrave 3rds (136-7).
