THAMES Valley League Division 3a runners-up Sonning completed their season on a high with an emphatic nine-wicket win at home to Falkland 2nds, writes Richard Ashton.

Raja Rafaqat (5-15) and Rehan Akram (4-30) did the damage as the visitors were shot out for just 90, and Peter Dean’s rapid 57 not out ushered Sonning past their target in 16.2 overs.

George Wheeler (65), Paul Reber (43), Anwar Subhani (42) and Andy Jackson (40no) were all in form for Purley-on-Thames (226-8 declared in 47.5 overs), but their game with Newbury (6-1) was ended by rain.

Guy Ashby claimed 3-53 for fourth-placed Kidmore End, but their Division 2a home game against Marlow Park (220-7) was called off due to bad weather.

Wargrave’s relegation from Division 2b was confirmed after their game at High Wycombe 2nds (195-9) was abandoned.

Hurst finished in fourth place after Andrew Ruddock’s 6-25 inspired his side to an emphatic eight-wicket win at Chiswick & Whitton.

The hosts were shot out for just 72, and Hurst knocked the runs off in just 14.2 overs.

Andy Sharp (5-49) and Rob Dimmack (4-39) impressed with the ball for eighth-placed Theale & Tilehurst (48-1), but their run chase against relegated Henley 3rds (171) was halted by rain.

Will Ellison made an unbeaten 77 as Royal Ascot 2nds (191-7) sealed promotion as Division 5b runners-up after their game against Sonning 2nds was abandoned mid-match.

Matt Townson (64) and Archie Withers (60) were in fine form for Division 6b champions Wargrave 2nds (225-8), before Fleet 2nds’ (53-4) reply was halted by rain.

Matt Morrison (4-91) bowled well for Hurst 2nds (34-0) in their abandoned game against Purley-on-Thames 2nds (205). Chris Priestley top scored with 60 for the Potters.

Theale & Tilehurst 2nds dropped into the bottom two – level on points with Aldershot 3rds – after their home game against Boyne Hill 3rds was abandoned.

George Coker took 4-58 as the visitors were bowled out for 189, and T&T looked set for victory after racing to 70-2 after 13.3 overs.

However, Aldershot took an extra point from their abandoned game against Wokingham 3rds to send Theale down.

In Division 7a, Azhar Udeen (70no) and Jonny Abbott (55) helped Kidmore End 2nds to declare on 203-6, before Thatcham Town 3rds’ (36-0) reply was cut short.

Eversley 3rds (56-1) fell agonisingly short of promotion after their game against rock-bottom Theale & Tilehurst 3rds (139) was called off.

Sonning 3rds (19-1) missed out on Division 8a promotion after their game with Newbury 2nds (192) was abandoned.
