RAMS finished third in their own pre-season festival on Saturday.

The Old Bath Road side hammered Bracknell 34-0 in their opening game, before falling to a narrow 12-7 defeat to Esher.

This left them second in Pool A, but they rebounded to beat the Pool B runners-up Old Albanians 14-7 in the third-fourth place play-off.

The competition was won by Chinnor, who went unbeaten through the day before finally beating Esher 14-7 in the final.

Rams’ Director of Player Development, ex-head coach and Ramfest founder, Mike Tewkesbury was delighted with the event, stating: “This is the second year of running the festival and on this occasion we increased the participation to six teams.

"The event is a great way to try out new players and combinations before the leagues commences next month.

"Chinnor ran out worthy winners by beating Esher in a closely-fought and entertaining final, and they join Bridgend, last year’s winners, on the honours board."

Rams head coach Seb Reynolds was also pleased with how his new-look squad fared in their first outing of the season, adding: "It was an excellent format for pre-season preparation with quality opposition played in the right spirit.

"After six weeks of hard preparation, nothing quite beats playing the game and it was nice to see the squad running out for the first time.

“I was especially pleased to see debutants Andrew Denham, James Page, George Bagshaw, Alex Seers, Rhys Tudor, Jon Malivoire and Harry Collison given an opportunity to show why we have brought them into the squad, while our returning squad have put a lot of work in over the summer and it showed on the pitch."

Rams visit Wales this weekend to play Bridgend and Bridgend Athletic in what will be another two tough tests.

And Reynolds said: “There is a religious fervour about rugby in Wales and when you play a Welsh side they test you at every level. If you have weaknesses, they will find them, so they're great fixtures."
